The story of Mr. Shah is one of resilience, vision, and belief in possibilities. He came to Mumbai at a very young age to envisage his dream of starting his own trading business. He began his initial journey by doing different jobs in the metal market to understand the intricacies of business and in the year 1969, he started his own trading firm in metals. He always believed that with patience, honesty and hard work, success will follow. As a visionary, Mr. Shah noticed a glaring gap in the Indian steel supply chain. Industries across the country had demand, but there were no reliable and organized channels to meet their requirement. He took the bold step of approaching mills directly, cutting down delays and ensuring timely supply for customers. This was a turning point as what began as trading expanded into a one-stop solution, where customers could access a complete range of products under one roof. His reputation for reliability soon attracted the attention of major corporations, and in the year 1993 SKM became a Channel Partner with Tata Steel, a bond that continues strong even today, built on 5 decades of consistency and trust, making SKM one of India’s most respected distribution and service partner in steel.
With hard work and dedication, Mr. Shah expanded his business portfolio into various industries and today the group consists of Steel servicing and distribution, Aluminium, Boiler Plates, Seamless tubes and Pipes, Jewellery, Real estate, Infrastructure, OSB boards, etc. He always believed in giving back to the society and has dedicated his life towards philanthropy by opening hospitals, schools and gaushalas in his native village and contribute to various social causes. His undying passion for work, ethics, discipline and vision for tomorrow have been a guiding light for the progress of the group.
Joining SKM Steels in 2002 after graduating in Commerce from H.R. College, Mumbai, Mr. Chowdhary has been the driving force behind the company’s TMT division. Starting from scratch, he built the business to achieve an impressive 10,000 tons in monthly sales, positioning SKM among the leading distributors in India. A hardcore sales leader at heart, Mr. Chowdhary thrives on building lasting customer relationships through trust, service, and responsiveness. His vision extends beyond distribution — he has been instrumental in pioneering value-added solutions such as cut & bend TMT products, setting new benchmarks in the industry. Under his leadership, SKM has consistently expanded its value-addition portfolio every few years, strengthening its role as a solutions partner for India’s construction and infrastructure sectors.
Recognised by Tata Steel with awards for excellence, Mr. Chowdhary continues to focus on innovation, customer-centric growth, and positioning SKM as the No. 1 distributor across every product category in which it operates. With over 25 years of experience in CRHR, BQ, Stainless division, Finance & Accounting, Mr. Shah leads the complete financial management function at SKM Steels, ensuring strong fiscal discipline and strategic financial planning across the organization. As the custodian of the company’s financial operations, he has played a critical role in streamlining processes, enhancing transparency, and driving operational efficiency through structured financial systems.
Known for his analytical approach and attention to detail, Mr. Shah has been instrumental in implementing robust financial controls and supporting data-driven decision-making at every level. His expertise extends to budgeting, compliance, risk management, and optimizing financial performance in a dynamic business environment. Through his consistent focus on process excellence and long-term sustainability, he continues to strengthen the organization’s financial foundation, enabling SKM to scale confidently while maintaining stability and control.
A pivotal part of SKM Group leadership since 1998, Mr. Shah brings over two decades of experience and a sharp operational mindset to the Group’s evolving journey. From initiating SKM’s first service centre with an annual capability of 24,000 tons, he now leads the Coated Steel Division and service-centre operations and contributes to the groups broader portfolio, including select real estate initiatives aligned with long-term growth.From one service centre, Mr. Shah has guided SKM’s expansion to multiple facilities, significantly boosting servicing capabilities, efficiency and reach.
His strategic focus on coated products, value-added services, and OEM-driven solutions bridge mill strengths with market needs.
